KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco died early Thursday morning in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 near Grain Valley, Missouri, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 5:45 a.m. when Pacheco’s 2024 Dodge Durango left the roadway, struck a guardrail, and rolled several times. Authorities say the 26-year-old was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed reporters outside the team facility with visible emotion: “We lost a brother today. Isiah brought energy and joy to everyone around him. Our hearts are broken for his family, his teammates, and this entire organization.”
General manager Brett Veach confirmed the news in a brief statement: “We are devastated to confirm the passing of Isiah Pacheco. He was an incredible young man and a vital part of our team. We ask for privacy for his family during this unimaginable time.”

Pacheco, in his fourth NFL season, had rushed for 873 yards and 7 touchdowns through 13 games in 2025. The Rutgers product was a seventh-round pick in 2022 and became a fan favorite for his hard-running style and infectious personality.
The Chiefs have canceled all team activities for the remainder of the week. Counseling services are being made available to players and staff.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
