WATCH: Video of Travis Kelce’s Happy Gilmore golf swing finally hits internet and Mahomes’ reaction is the best part
Travis Kelce is going to play a role in Happy Gilmore 2
Ever since the rumors began to swirl that Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce would have a role in the long-awaited Happy Gilmore sequel on Netflix, NFL fans all had the same thing in mind. His acting career may be off to a promising start, but none of it would matter unless Kelce proved he could hit a tee shot like Happy Gilmore.

The video evidence did not disappoint. Just ask Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who recorded the clip for Travis Kelce’s Instagram story and could be heard chuckling in the background. He sounded like a little kid re-watching the 1996 film for the first time, as many from the new generation will do before Happy Gilmore 2 comes out. The release date is yet to be confirmed.
“That was actually hammered!” Mahomes says in his recognizable “Kermit” voice after Kelce sent the ball flying off the tee.
The 34-year-old, who is dating Taylor Swift, was able to perfectly replicate Happy Gilmore’s classic slap shot tee shot. Adam Sandler’s character was a failed hockey player who took the 1996 Tour Championship by storm in the cult classic movie. Many have tried to recreate the famous swing over the years, but the three-time Super Bowl champ made it look way easier than it actually is.
Is Travis Kelce in Happy Gilmore 2?
Who knows how long Kelce has been holding onto that clip, but he was finally able to release it after Sandler appeared on the first episode of the new season of Kelce’s New Heights podcast, co-hosted by his brother, Jason Kelce. Sandler is returning to play the lead character Happy Gilmore in the sequel, but he confirmed Travis as a member of the cast.
“The whole thing was to get to hang out with Travis. That’s why we put it together,” Sandler said of the movie on August 28th’s episode of New Heights.
“We were talking about you playing my son while we were writing it, six months ago. We were like, imagine if Travis was my first baby, how funny that would be,” revealed Sandler.
The original included a slew of huge names from sports and Hollywood, such as Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, Lee Trevino, Ben Stiller, Verne Lundquist, and the late Carl Weathers and Bob Barker.
Kelce and the army of Swifties who follow his every move will certainly bring a new audience to the Happy Gilmore reboot. But for fans of the original, he passed the most important test on the golf course.
