ESPN football reporter’s comment about an engagement ring has Taylor and Travis fans curious
Is there something you’re not telling us, Adam Schefter?
Sports fans took notice this week when ESPN football reporter Adam Schefter made a comment that some are interpreting as a hint that Travis Kelce may have purchased an engagement ring for Taylor Swift.
It all happened during the Aug. 27 episode of ESPN’s “NFL Live” after the show’s host, Laura Rutledge, noted that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end recently bought an ownership stake in a racehorse named Swift Delivery.
Travis Kelce made a big purchase recently — no, not an engagement ring — but it was Swift-adjacent,” Rutledge joked while mentioning the purchase.
Schefter, an NFL insider, responded, “Wait, I have a question, Laura. … How do you know that Travis Kelce didn’t buy an engagement ring?”
“I don’t know. Do you know?” Rutledge asked, her interest piqued. “Are you going to break some big news here?”
Schefter pressed his lips together, smiling, but said nothing.
Finally, he replied, “I’m just saying, you said that he didn’t buy an engagement ring and I’m just wondering how you have that information?”
Former NFL star Booger McFarland, who also appeared on the episode, then chimed in, “Whoa, whoa, whoa. The awkward silence right there speaks volumes. Schefty, do you know something, Schefty? America wants to know.”
Still smiling, Schefter replied, “All I did was ask a question about how Laura knew he hadn’t bought an engagement ring. That’s all I was doing.”
Rutledge concluded the segment by telling Schefter she intended to study the footage of him later for clues.
“I’m going to go back and rewatch this and analyze everything that your face does, Adam. For now, we’re going to go to some actual news,” she said as he laughed.
ESPN captioned a video of the segment on X, “‘How do you know Travis Kelce didn’t buy an engagement ring?’ @AdamSchefter asking the important questions.”
TODAY.com has reached out to reps for both Swift and Kelce for comment.
X users who saw the segment wondered for themselves if Schefter had inside knowledge of an upcoming proposal.
“Schefter *trying* to maintain a poker face after asking THE question,” one wrote.
“Look at his face!” added another.
“Asking what the people want to know. So did he?!!!” wrote someone else, adding emoji of a heart and diamond ring.
“We wanna know what you know!” yet another commenter wrote.
Kelce and Swift began dating about a year ago. The couple’s love story has played out in public with Swift attending more than a dozen Chiefs football games and flying across nine time zones during her “Eras Tour” to watch Kelce play in the Super Bowl.
For his part, Kelce has jetted around the world to catch Swift in multiple “Eras Tour” concerts and joined her onstage at a concert in June at London’s Wembley Stadium.
