Donald Trump gets royal support following rally attack via personal letter from King Charles
President Trump was confirmed as the Republican nominee for the 2024 Presidential Elections.
King Charles III extended a gesture of support to former U.S. President Donald Trump by sending a private letter following an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
King Charles concerned by Trump attack
The letter, delivered through the UK embassy in Washington, came in the wake of a sniper attack that left Trump with an injury to his right ear, one spectator dead, and two others seriously injured.
The assailant, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed at the scene.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the letter’s delivery but did not disclose its contents.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and expressions of well-wishes for Trump from leaders around the world.
In an address from the Oval Office on Sunday, President Joe Biden urged Americans to “lower the temperature in our politics.”
Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his horror at the attack, offering his best wishes to Trump and his family.
“Political violence in any form has no place in our societies, and my thoughts are with all the victims of this attack,” Starmer posted on X.
King Charles has been resuming his royal duties after a cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
Following a period of recuperation, Charles has returned to his public engagements, including a speech marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings and attending the Trooping the Colour ceremony.
Today, he and Queen Camilla are visiting the Channel Islands for a special sitting of the States Assembly.
