Jannik Sinner came into the US Open after winning the Cincinnati Open but under a doping storm that engulfed the tennis world. But he lived up to his favourite tag.
He took down Taylor Fritz in three sets 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 after a tough run in during the latter half of the tournament including Jack Draper, Daniil Medvedev and Tommy Paul among others.

Adding to his Australian Open triumph, he was pleased to bookend another season with a superb Grand Slam double.

“Incredible? So many big wins for me this season. Starting with Australia and playing so well there which gave me confidence til now. The work never stops. I know I can still improve. As we awe today a couple things. You have to be proud of what you have. The rest, you have to go for it and work for it.”
“This title means so much for me. The last period of my career was really not easy. I have My team supports me every day. The people who are close to me. I love tennis. I practice a lot for these kind of stages.”

But also there was a word for his aunt who he admitted may not be around much longer and in his mind puts life into real perspective about what is important.

“I also realize off court there is a life.. I would like to dedicate this title to my aunt. She is really not feeling well health wise. I don’t know how much longer I’ll have her in my life. It’s so nice that I can share positive moments with her still. She is a very important person for my life. If that would be my one biggest wish, I wish the best health for everyone. Unfortunately it’s not possible.”

Also he spoke about coming into the tournament with low expectations and how he managed to deal with that his way.
“I did pretty well I guess? We just went day by day. Trying to practice well in the days off. Believing in ourself which is more important. I understood how important the mental part is in this sport. I’m very happy and proud to share this with my team. I know there are a lot of people watching from home. But I’d like to thank everyone for being so fair in this amazing arena. It was a huge pleasure.”
