The ex-New York Yankees and the Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback’s mother had an unlikely crossover.
Many people paid attention to Luka Doncic’s star performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves, and it even created some crossovers you wouldn’t expect to happen such as Alex Rodriguez, the New York Yankees’ legendary slugger, and Randi Mahomes, mother of the Kansas City Chiefs’ ace quarterback as the pair linked up for a photo.
It turns out both had gone to the American Airlines Center to watch Kyrie Irving and the Slovenian punch the Dallas Mavericks a ticket to the NBA Finals and so two of the biggest family names in US sports even managed to cross paths as a result.
On paper it seems surprising, until one digs deeper and learns that A-Rod is interested in buying the Timberwolves, who lost the Conference Finals 4-1, whilst Randi Mahomes is a proud Texan and watches the Mavs along with her son, Patrick.
And Rodriguez, who hit 696 homers for the Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and Yankees, was surprised more than once that night as the 14-time All-Star had his jaw taken away by his two daughters.
Natasha and Ella Rodriguez, born in 2004 and 2008, surprised their father by appearing courtside whilst he wasn’t expecting them, leading to a heart-warming and emotional embrace between the family.
“I could not believe it,” Rodriguez posted onto Instagram. “Ella and @thenatasharodriguez you two got me so good ,”
The Mahomes’ baseball roots
This is far from the Mahomes’ family’s first run-in with baseball as the patriarch of the clan, Pat Mahomes Sr. spent 1992-2003 in MLB and even managed to play for the Boston Red Sox as a pitcher, amassing a 42-39 win-loss record.
But now they are known for football thanks to the Kansas City Chiefs’ Mahomes, who has won three Super Bowls since 2018 as he looks set to push himself next to Tom Brady’s legendary run with the New England Patriots.
His most recent win, at Super Bowl LVIII, saw him throw the season-ending touchdown to Mercole Hardman meaning that the Chiefs have now won two in a row and could be set to go for the hattrick in 2024/25, which would be unprecedented.
