Taylor Swift’s future at NFL games decided after furious Travis Kelce backlash
After attending over a dozen games involving the Kansas CIty Chiefs last season, it remains to be seen whether pop superstar Taylor Swift will be present to cheer on her boyfriend again in 2024.
After cheering her boyfriend Travis Kelce on as he inspired the Kansas City Chiefs to Super Bowl glory last season, Taylor Swift is purportedly planning to continue her support from the stands in the next campaign.
The romance between the NFL tight end and the pop superstar united sports and music fans alike in intrigue as their relationship played out publicly from last September onwards. After attending her first Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium as they took on the Chicago Bears, she was in the VIP box at 13 games across the 2023 term in total.
An unexpected side plot during a memorable season for KC, the “Anti Hero” hitmaker’s presence in the stands was often the subject of scrutiny with broadcasters often panning to her in the crowd during games involving her beau. Despite some backlash from NFL purists, her visits to watch Kelce in action introduced football to fresh audiences including her army of fans.
Now, a source has told PEOPLE that Swift plans to be a regular attendee at Kelce’s games next season too, saying: “Football is definitely still his priority but so is his relationship. He makes romantic gestures to show he’s thinking of her when they’re apart. She’s going to try to attend as many games as possible.
“They have so much fun together, and it just works. It’s funny to their friends because at first everyone wondered what they had in common, but you realize how similar they are. They both wear their hearts on their sleeves and are all-in with everything they do, whether it’s with career, family or friends.”
Ever the professional, the singer told the crowd in Liverpool on June 13 that her focus remains set on her global Eras Tour for now, however, with her commitments running until December 8. She revealed: “That feels so far away from now, but then again, it feels like we just played our first show on this tour because you have made this so fun for us.
It’s taken over everything. I think I once had hobbies, but I don’t know what they were anymore because all I do when I’m not on stage is sit at home and try to think of clever acoustic song mashups.”
During the NFL off-season, Kelce has jetted to various locations to see his girlfriend on the European leg of her tour, as he took in shows in London and Dublin on her 152-night run. In a memorable moment in the British capital, he even appeared on stage wearing a top hat and a dapper suit as he performed a routine with his beau between songs.
Speaking about that cameo on his New Heights podcast, he said: “Who knows, this might not be the last time you see me busting moves out there. You guys are just going to have to keep buying those tickets to the Eras Tour to see if I magically appear from under the stage or something.’ ”
“I initially mentioned it to Tay but was like ‘How funny would it be if I rolled out on one of the bikes for the 1989 era’ and she started laughing and was like ‘Would you seriously be up for doing something like that?’ I was just like, ‘what? I would love to do that, are you kidding me?’ I’ve seen the show enough, might as well put me to work here.”
