US Open final prize money: This is what Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz can win…It’s mind blowing

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner takes on top-ranked American Taylor Fritz in the US Open final on Sunday.

It could be a historic affair – if Fritz wins, he will become the first American man to lift a Grand Slam title in 21 years. Meanwhile, Sinner is vying for his second Major crowd.

There is also a huge cheque on offer, with the champion receiving almost double the amount of cash the runner-up gets.

As well as the US Open trophy, Sinner and Fritz are playing for £2.7million ($3.6million) – the amount awarded to the singles champions at this year’s tournament. Whoever loses Sunday’s final will get £1.4m ($1.8m).

If Fritz can get his hands on the title, the winners’ cheque will eclipse his total prize money for the season. So far in 2024, the world No. 12 has won £1.9m ($2.48m).

Meanwhile, Sinner had accumulated the second-most prize money on the ATP Tour this year coming into the US Open, with £5.3m ($6.96m) earned to date. Whether or not he wins the title, he should leave Flushing Meadows as the highest-earning male player for the year.

The US Open has the biggest prize pot on offer in tennis history throughout the fortnight, with the purse sitting at a staggering total of £57m ($75m).

The men’s and women’s doubles champions – Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson; and Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok – pocketed £571k ($750k) to share while mixed doubles winners Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori won £152k ($200k).

While the prize money will be a significant boost to both Sinner and Fritz, both men are purely focused on winning the title. “I’m happy to be in the final here. It’s a special tournament, so let’s see what’s coming Sunday,” Australian Open champion Sinner said.

Fritz, who is looking to end the American men’s drought in Grand Slams, added: “It’s just joy, like, the crowd cheering and kind of that realisation, like wow, I’m in, like, the finals of the US Open.”
