Coco Gauff net worth a drop in the ocean compared to US Open star she ‘split away’ from
Coco Gauff is set to face off against Emma Navarro in the fourth round of the US Open on Sunday, with the pair having been room-mates at the Olympics last month.
Coco Gauff’s multi-million dollar fortune pales in comparison to her US Open rival and former Olympics roommate, Emma Navarro.
The current US Open champion is set to defend her title at Flushing Meadows this year but will have to overcome Navarro in a fourth-round clash on Sunday (September 1). The pair, who’ve been acquainted since their childhood days, are set for an epic showdown.
Gauff, who made headlines as a 15-year-old by defeating Venus Williams at Wimbledon, has since raked in over $15million (£11million) in prize money. She’s also bagged lucrative endorsement deals with big names like Head, New Balance, and Italian food company Barilla, who also sponsor Roger Federer.
Despite being just 20 years old, the American sensation reportedly has a net worth of $12m (£9.1m), a figure that could swell should she retain her title in New York, with a whopping $3.6m (£2.7m) up for grabs for the tournament winner.
However, despite Gauff’s impressive financial achievements, they seem minuscule when compared to Navarro’s net worth, thanks to her billionaire background. Navarro, 23, is the daughter of billionaire businessman Ben Navarro, who amassed his wealth through Sherman Financial Group, where he serves as founder and CEO.
According to Forbes, Navarro senior boasts a net worth of $1.5bn (£1.1bn), making the tennis starlet the heiress to this family fortune, reports the Express. The New Yorker has raked in a substantial fortune from her tennis career, amassing over $2m (£1.5m) in winnings and was also part of Team USA in the Olympics last month, sharing accommodation in the Olympic Village with Gauff.
Gauff opened up about their long-standing connection, although admitting that as life progressed, they saw less of each other. “She’s great. I have known her since I was young, basically since I started playing tennis,” Gauff said.
“We are very friendly with each other, I wouldn’t say we are close friends, because we grew up but then we kind of split as we went to college.”
Navarro offered insight into their Parisian escapades claiming that her tolerance for the crowded Village living conditions was tested. “We shared kind of like apartment, dorm-style apartment at the Olympic Village,” she revealed.
The athlete humorously recounted the divide between Village stayers and hotel goers. She added: “We were roommates for a few days, we kind of had a running joke that the people that stayed in the Village as opposed to going to the hotel were digging.
“They were digging it out, digging really deep. I dug as long as I could, but I eventually had to move to the hotel because I wasn’t really sleeping too much at the Village. Coco dug it out all week.”
